A Reflection on the Month of Ramadhan

Ramadan is the blessed month in which Muslims globally unite in fasting, prayers and reading the Qur’an.

However, UK Muslims face unique challenges as different Muslim communities start and end the month of Ramadan on opposing days due to following their country of origin. Many worry whether Ramadan has become a festive season with a growing commercial side just like Christmas is for Christians, and therefore missed its real objective; Taqwa, Dawa and using the Quranic commands as a Criterion for mankind.

During Ramadan Muslims are encouraged to be more charitable; an important act of worship, however with Satellite TV programmes, Masajid, and community events all fundraising; questions should be asked what impact this fundraising has in the long term in alleviating the suffering of Muslims. Do Muslims end up feeling content with their charities and neglect working for a lasting Islamic political solution?
